WAXING TIPS, TRICKS AND MYTHS | AURA DAY SPA
Summertime… think sunshine, beach days and jetting off on those all important sunny holidays! Sounds like the dream, doesn’t it? However, us girls know all too well that there is a lot of prep that goes into getting holiday ready, alongside a pressure to have that perfect hair free bikini body. At Aura Day Spa, we believe that a bikini body is just your body with a bikini on it - nothing more. But, we also know that it’s important to feel as good as you look. This is where our range of treatments come in. This blog is going to bust the waxing myths, helping you to get hair free for your holidays, with waxing services at Aura Day Spa.
Isn’t shaving easier?
Whilst you can shave in the comfort of your own shower, you’ll find yourself shaving multiple times on your holiday - when you could be sunning yourself! Waxing provides a longer lasting clean feel, as the hair is removed from the root or follicle. This means you can ditch the razor, and get out to that sun lounger stress free!
Will waxing make my hair grow back darker and thicker?
Ah, we're glad to offer you this info to bust any myths that waxing, causes hair to grow back darker - this couldn't be more wrong! Hair removal doesn't alter the pigment and thickness of the hair when it grows back. Shaving can make hair appear thicker because of the angle the hair, but waxing removes the hair from base.
Waxing is too painful!
Whilst everyone has a completely different pain tolerance is different, most people only experience a little discomfort. At Aura Day Spa, we go above and beyond to make you feel at ease during your treatment. If you’re really dedicated to decreasing sensitivity, say no to caffeine for a few hours before hand. Caffeine will restrict blood vessels, restricting blood flow and result in more sensitivity.
Prepping for your Wax
Ensure your hair is a suitable length for the best results - around 1/4 of an inch as the wax must have hair to grip onto so can be more easily removed.Exfoliating your skin a few days before can also be useful to remove dead skin. You can also give your skin a break from moisturisers or creams on the day of your wax to ensure that these products do not interfere.
What do I wear to get waxed?
Our best advice is to avoid any tight fitting clothing that clings to your skin, as you want to give your pores a chance to breathe. We’ll provide disposable underwear if you are having a bikini wax and we do our best to put you at ease - it can be a daunting experience!
How far in advance should I book my wax?
We recommend that our clients book their waxing appointments two or three days before you set your sights on sunny horizons. This allows any redness or sensitivity a chance to calm after your wax, but also ensures you’ll be in prime position to hit the beach! Ensure that you wear a suitable SPF after being waxed as this can be a sensitive time for your skin.
Can I venture into the swimming pool post wax?
You can certainly take your smooth legs into the pool once you've waxed, but we would recommend waiting for at least 24-hours. This is to prevent any chlorine or other substances from entering your newly opened pores, which may lead to irritation, infection or just general redness.
Will waxing take away my tan?
Waxing unfortunately can lighten the skin, as it takes away the top layer but also those dark hairs.
If you're waxing before your holiday, this shouldn't be a problem as you'll have plenty of opportunities to get a fresh tan.
